Trip-performance «RED TREE»

Home is always alive, it remembers your little feet running on its floor, your painting pictures on its walls, how fascinating and terrifying were shadows /appeared in the moonlight outside the window. “Red Tree” is a trip through memories of my Home, trip through your imagination.

“Performance “Red Tree” is a kind of lyrical confession, it’s the memories of a real home that has burnt down one day. There was a fire that ruined the home of my childhood. And one day I came back to this place and found that three tall trees had grown from inside the skeleton of the burnt house. This caused very strong feelings in me then. This moment of meeting – with my lovely home, with my childhood memories, with the charred frame of my own past that the burnt house is symbolizing, with a new life that bloomed on the ashes – this is the time of the performance.” Lidia Kopina, director

The image of this burnt house became a start point in the idea of the performance. The wood house, especially if it is the home of your childhood, it is always alive. It is full of sounds and shadows, creaks and whispers, colors and images… And сcertainly it evokes forgotten memories from the childhood, connected with the home. However, the performance is not only about the losses and not about the death. This story is about the life that grows through the ashes of the burnt wood. And three tall trees here are the symbols of the revival and continuation of life. But this is also just the one of possible symbols and everybody sees any sense that correlates with his cultural experience and his own stockpile of inner symbols. And that is why physical theatre is so reach in creation of meanings. “Red Tree” is a trip-performance in some way. Your guide on this tour is an image of a little girl in a white dress. Like a ghost from the past, she invites you into this journey, into every nook and cranny of this burnt old house. And then the images of the past appear here from the pictures painted with chalk on the walls. And these images return you back to something secret in your memory and your heart. This is an image of the lost home; the home where your close people are locked and you can not bring them back; the home which had burnt and become the ashes of memories. And the girl is stubbornly continuing painting this home on the floor and on the walls, but all the attempts to revive this memory stay futile. The performers suggest you all these images and spectators follow them like it was a guiding thread that takes you to your own memories, associations, forgotten childhood fears, hopes and dreams. They fill every room with the special metaphorical and associative atmosphere, create the semantic field by their gestures, movements and all their presence. So for every spectator the performance turns into the inner self-examination.
